Important Medical and Safety Information (Disclaimer):
Not Medical Advice: SaluStory is a tool for tracking and organising health information, not a healthcare provider. The app does not give professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Any content or data summaries provided in SaluStory are for general informational purposes only. No material in the app is intended to substitute for the advice provided by a licensed medical professional. Always seek the guidance of a qualified doctor or other healthcare provider with any questions you have regarding your child's health or any medical condition.
Consult Healthcare Professionals: Do not use SaluStory as the sole basis for making healthcare decisions. For example, do not solely rely on the app's record of symptoms or its reminders to decide on a course of treatment without consulting a doctor. If you have concerns about your child's health (or your own), consult a healthcare professional. Use the app's information as supportive data when discussing with the clinician, not as a conclusive assessment. Your doctor can interpret the information in context, run appropriate tests, and provide a diagnosis or treatment plan. Never disregard professional medical advice or delay seeking it because of something you read in SaluStory.
No Emergency Use: SaluStory is not intended for emergencies. In a medical emergency or any situation where immediate medical attention is needed, do not rely on the app. Call emergency services (dial 000 in Australia) or go to the nearest emergency department. The app cannot contact doctors or emergency responders for you, and it does not have an emergency alert function. For example, if your child has difficulty breathing, severe pain, uncontrolled bleeding, signs of anaphylaxis, or any urgent health issue, treat it as an emergency and seek immediate help rather than logging it in the app. Time spent in the app during an emergency could delay critical care.
Informational Nature of Data: The data and summaries presented in SaluStory (such as charts of symptom frequency, medication logs, or developmental trackers) are informational tools. They can help you remember events or notice patterns, but they have limitations. For instance, a trend line might show improvement or worsening of a symptom, but it cannot explain the underlying cause, that requires medical evaluation. Any interpretations or conclusions drawn from the data are your responsibility and ideally should be confirmed by a healthcare provider. The app does not "analyse" your data in a diagnostic way; it organises information to aid your own tracking.
Limitations of Coverage: SaluStory may not cover all health scenarios. The app's features are geared toward common caregiving tasks (like recording symptoms, meds, growth). It may not have specialised fields for every possible symptom or condition. Just because the app doesn't prompt for a particular sign or factor doesn't mean it isn't important. Do not ignore symptoms or factors just because the app doesn't specifically ask for them. Always use your judgment. Additionally, the app cannot and does not verify the accuracy or completeness of the data you enter. If you forget to log something or log it incorrectly, the outputs (charts, timelines) will naturally be incomplete or inaccurate. Be diligent in logging, but also recall that human error is possible, double-check critical information with a professional.
No Diagnostic or Therapeutic Functions: SaluStory is not a diagnostic tool. It will not tell you what illness corresponds to the symptoms logged, nor will it suggest treatments (beyond perhaps general tips or reminders that are non-specific). Similarly, the app does not monitor vital signs in real-time or alert you to danger signs. For example, the app will not alert you if a fever you logged is dangerously high, that interpretation is up to you and your doctor. It is not a substitute for medical judgment. If the app provides any educational content or general guidance (like "fever in children, when to worry"), treat that as broad information, not personalised advice. Each individual's situation can differ. Additionally, while educational content is generated from authoritative Australian references (e.g. Royal Children's Hospital, NSW Health), SaluStory makes no warranty that the information is complete, current or error-free.
Data Reliability: We strive to keep the app reliable and available, but technical issues can occur (as noted in our Terms). A reminder might fail to send, a note might not save if there's no internet, or the app could become temporarily inaccessible. Do not rely on the app as the sole keeper of crucial information. For critical schedules (like medication times), use redundancy, for example, also set an alarm on your phone or write it down. SaluStory's reminders are helpful but technology isn't infallible. Always double-check important tasks. Similarly, if you share a summary with a clinician through the app, confirm they received it; technology glitches or spam filters could interfere.
User Responsibility for Interpretation: The responsibility for how you interpret and use the data from SaluStory rests with you, the user. We encourage you to use SaluStory as a discussion aid with professionals. For instance, showing the doctor the timeline of fevers can be very useful. But you should ask the doctor what the data means; do not assume a pattern is benign or serious without their input. If the app's summary seems to suggest something (like symptom X always happens after food Y, as per your logs), validate that hypothesis with a professional before acting on it (like eliminating foods or administering treatments). SaluStory does not provide medical or diagnostic advice, nor does it monitor vital signs in real time. All decisions about diagnosis, treatment or emergency care remain solely with you and your qualified healthcare professional.
Medical Expertise and Professional Advice: Any health-related content provided by SaluStory (such as articles, tips, or common illness descriptions) is created to be helpful but is not personalised medical advice and SaluStory makes no warranty that the information is complete, current or error-free. Healthcare providers have training and context that the app does not. No matter how detailed your logs are, they cannot capture everything a clinician can gather through physical exams, diagnostic tests, and medical knowledge. Always give your healthcare provider the full picture verbally as well, and don't assume they have all context just from an app printout. Use SaluStory to complement, not replace, the communication between you and your child's healthcare providers.
No Warranties on Health Outcomes: Using SaluStory does not guarantee any health outcome. It won't ensure your child gets better, nor prevent them from getting ill. It is simply a tool. Good record-keeping can improve consultations and maybe outcomes, but it's not a treatment in itself. If your child's condition worsens despite using the app, that's not the app's fault nor something the app could necessarily prevent. Always follow actual treatment plans and advice given by healthcare professionals.
When in Doubt, Check It Out: If the app, or your recording in it, raises any doubt or alarms in your mind, for example, you notice through the app that a symptom has lasted a very long time, or a metric is off (like weight not increasing over months), do not wait for the app to do something about it (the app won't). Trust your instincts and seek professional evaluation. It's better to have a doctor say "it's nothing to worry about" than to miss something important. The app can help highlight things, but acting on them is up to you.
Emergency Contact Info: We advise that you keep emergency numbers and your child's physician's contact readily available outside the app as well. In a crisis, you don't want to dig through an app for that info. Have a plan for emergencies that is independent of the app (like knowing where the nearest hospital is, having a first aid kit, etc.).
Final Reminder: SaluStory is here to help you track information, not to make decisions for you. You, possibly in consultation with healthcare providers, must make all decisions regarding medical care. By using SaluStory, you acknowledge that you understand these limitations and agree that SaluStory is not providing medical advice or treatment.
Stay informed, use SaluStory as a helpful assistant, but always put professional medical advice and your child's safety first. If you have any questions about this disclaimer or how to use the app safely, please contact us or consult a healthcare provider for guidance. Your and your child's health are of utmost importance, and SaluStory's goal is to support you in managing health information effectively, within the clear boundaries outlined above.
